2 min read

02 April 2024, Nairobi: Following in the footsteps of its South African counterpart, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (CDH) Kenya claimed top-tier results in the East Africa Awards, including:

•           2nd       by East Africa M&A Deal Flow.

•           2nd       by East Africa General Corporate Finance Deal Flow (tie).

•           2nd       by Pan African M&A Deal Flow (tie).

These results underscore our exceptional performance in the African M&A landscape and reinforce CDH’s standing as the preferred M&A deal legal adviser to more listed clients than any other corporate legal advisory firm in the South African market for the last 14 out of 15 years, according to the 2024 ANSARADA DealMakers Awards.

Reflecting on CDH Kenya’s outstanding achievement, CDH Kenya Managing Partner Sammy Ndolo remarks, “Our recent successes at DealMakers AFRICA clearly demonstrate the firm’s expertise, efficiency, and ability to navigate complex deals and clients’ recognition of our value proposition as their trusted legal business partner in multiple M&A matters.”

Ndolo expressed optimism regarding the firm’s performance over the next year. “As a cross-Africa practice, we recognise the importance of M&A in driving economic growth and fostering investor confidence across the continent and in particular in East and West Africa. Our presence at the 2024 DealMakers AFRICA Awards Gala signifies our dedication to serving our clients’ strategic interests and business transactional activity across our continent.”

Emphasising the firm’s commitment to excellence, CDH CEO Brent Williams says, “The success at DealMakers Africa reinforces our unwavering dedication to delivering value to our clients. Our combined Africa-wide experience of working on multiple cross-border deals enables the firm to expertly anticipate challenges, and mitigate risks for our clients, further enhancing our gravitas as expert corporate legal advisors in the marketplace.”

Looking ahead, Williams says CDH Kenya anticipates continued success in navigating the evolving M&A corporate legal advisory landscape across Africa. “We’re poised to capitalise on emerging opportunities and overcome challenges as we forge ahead into the future. I have no doubt that next year’s DealMakers Africa event will be another reason to celebrate,” concludes Williams.

Notes: The value of 2023 deal activity in Africa, as captured by DealMakers AFRICA, was US$11,2 billion, a 36% decline from 2022, and 28% below pre-COVID numbers from 2019. Deal activity in East Africa came out on top with 144 deals recorded, followed by West Africa with 136 deals and North Africa with 107.
